Reading Group Meetings
Assign roles:
Discussion Leader- Direct the discussion. Generate questions for the group to discuss and keep the group focused and on task.
Scribe- Take notes. Summarize responses discussed by the group to provide answers on the discussion form.
Text Tracker- Find the text evidence. Each question and response should have 2 pieces of text evidence. Cite the best quotes from the text and include page numbers.
Research Director- Perform any necessary research. Does your group need to Google something or look up a definition? This is your job! Cite your source in the group's response.
Meet with your reading groups to discuss the first 6 chapters. Use the questions provided to direct your discussion. Research if necessary! Collaborate to answer the questions completely and generate more open-ended questions for further discussion. Incorporate text evidence with page numbers into each answer! After initial grading, this will form half of your prep notes for the Socratic Circle discussion after the next 6 chapters.
Put your recipe in front of you and think of a time you have eaten that food. Close your eyes and remember everything you can about that time. I want you to brainstorm everything you can remember in one of two ways. You can sketch out a picture of the scene, labeling everything you can think of, or you can free write the scene, making sure to concentrate on sensory details that will add to your story. Do one of these techniques for 10 minutes.
